International Law
There are currently 195 countries on planet Earth. Each
is a different jurisdiction and has a different legal system.
This firm has had dealings in many international legal jurisdictions. We are well versed in the methods required to gain an understanding of another country's legal system and take the steps necessary to protect your interests in another part of the world, as you or your business may require. International law is a complex legal area.
Whilst nations such as the United Kingdom share a broadly similar legal system to Australia, as do many English Commonwealth countries, there often major differences. Whilst these countries may read and interpret their laws very similarly to Australia, their protocols, procedures and distinct interpretation of their laws are often widely varied from our own.
The United States shares a broadly similar legal system to our own as do Canada, France and many other countries related to them, given the historical development of those nations. However whilst similar to ours, there are certain stark difference. European countries can vary widely as to their legal system. Eastern European countries and Western European countries can vary widely in their approach to the law, compared to the legal system in Australia.
Asian countries have a mix of legal systems. Depending on the nation, it is often not posible to broadly categorise as having any broad similarities to our own, however similar principles of justice and equity tend to apply. Middle Eastern Countries have legal systems often very different to our own.
